THE RED LIP SERIES

"I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them
so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know,
with a white quilt, and perhaps it says 'Go to sleep, darlings,
till the summer comes again.'" - Lewis Carroll

I don't usually do well in the cold, mentally physically nor emotionally, but New Zealand was amazing enough for me to overlook the freezing temperatures. My lips tend to go purple when temperatures fall, so to brighten my complexion I've turned to the ever reliable red lippy. How beautiful is it to have a bright pop of red against all the winter white that New Zealand bestows, it's like a vision of Snow White. Except my hair isn't ebony, but maybe it ought to be... maybe soon.

People see me as a constant traveller, I talk about travelling a lot but I never once thought that it was something people would associate me with. However upon reflection it is true, I am constantly travelling, and I am lucky enough to be able to do so.

Lot's of people love to travel. For me the passion lies in more than just 'it's fun', there's much more substance than that. Oh isn't there always when it comes to me? My passion for travelling transcends 'fun', it's my love for how travelling evolves me each time I return home. I bring home more than just the memories of a fun trip, of the photos and a stronger bond with the people I travelled with. I bring home a new mind, new ideas, a better me.

I am the type who craves knowledge, growth and enlightenment. And travelling provides just that. In unbelievable ways. And if your travels don't provide that, then you're doing the wrong type of travelling. Yes everyone travels to see things they haven't seen before, but for me I travel to also do things I've never done before. I have this dangerous mentality when I'm away from home to get up to some pretty absurd new things. Sometimes a tad too reckless. And I must confess I also had to be forced by friends to get travel insurance because I'm such an overt-optimist.

Travelling opens my mind to new ideas, and also to loving myself more. It's so therapeutic to leave home and be in a completely foreign place. You learn so much about yourself, your strengths and flaws, when you're thrown out of your norm. There's an unexplainable beauty in that.

  11. What a beautiful description of the traveling experience! I love seeing something new everyday, yes, but there's so much more, and you just found the words to explain it. I love the pictures that illustrate this beautiful post, they do look as part of a modern fairytale, the modern Snowhite

  15. It is easy to label traveling as just "fun" and recreational. Thanks for reminding me that it is also about exposure to new cultures, new experiences and expansion of our capabilities.
